Art and Activity: Interactive Strategies for Engaging with Art

I’m participating in this Coursera course from MOMA, an excellent combination of the theoretical and the practical as well as a fabulous opportunity to interact with educators worldwide. So far I have revisited Dewey, Vygostsky, Gardner and Csikszentmihalyi and acquired a bank of new and useful practical ideas. I have investigated the benchmark for designing good activities and identified the skills that such activities develop. The self-paced study is an effective combination of short videos and longer required and supplementary readings. I have a growing toolbox of games and activities including Blind Contours, Whip Around, Living Sculpture, D.J. The Artwork, Exquisite Corpse and Everyone’s A Critic. I’m also really pleased to have been introduced to the MOMA Art Lab app which is like Brushes for kids.  An excellent free short course which seamlessly combines digital and non-digital ideas.
