Clyfford Still is known for his “lifelines”, the vertical lines or bolts in his paintings representing the upright human form or life force. I find the way he deconstructed the human form, expanding it to universal significance, extraordinary.

Dean Sopel, Director of the Clyfford Still Museum, describes how the human body is so denatured by Still that it has become… “suggestions of landscape and bone and totem and shamanistic imagery, all starting to brew into a very interesting mixture.”
