On Possibilities and Limitations

Skittery When Fresh

This week I have started a new job. It is all consuming and full of possibilities. For me the thrill of discovering a new library is a slowly unfolding treasure. The smell of old books is strong and  I am incredibly lucky to be somewhere so full of history.  But… the energy to paint is diminished. The ideas have to be half scribbled in a notebook and the visions have to simmer for awhile.  There is a sort of silent space where words and colours co-exist in suspension. I recall John Berger’s explanation of Cy Twombly’s genius when he “visualises with living colours the silent space that exists between and around words.”
