Bloomsbury Windows I and II

Beyond the window, in the pre-dawn mist, I watch for the sun to rise.

Here a combination of the two crucial ingredients in an artist’s life – space and time. Interestingly I came upon the artist Lisa Pressman talking about the window motif as an exploration of interior and exterior space and one device that she returns to again and again. As time goes on I find that art is taking up more space both physically and mentally in my life and early morning is one of the times, as a part-time painter, that I can carve out time and space to paint.  I am thrown right back to the bedroom window I looked out throughout my childhood. I am thrown forward to that idyllic, spacious studio that I will inhabit.

“a motif’s treatment depends on the artist’s dual perspective of familiarity and detachment.” Laura Bruce
