There has never been land under my feet

This week I have been immersed in the poetry of Etel Adnan. More specifically Sea and Fog published in 2012. There is a memorable line…

” Only in the fog do I feel complete.”

I think I know what she means, something to do with the space and freedom needed for mystery and imagination. When things are too clear the possibilities are reduced.

When talking about painting she feels that what her brush produces is more real than the world she sees…”it gives us the essence of it, it’s substance and core.”

From The Perspective Of Grace

The image of the boulder is pretty prominent in my work of late. Not as an object of obstruction, more akin to a building block of stability. It feels elemental and solid, dependable and lasting.

In dreams a boulder can provide connection to a primal past, the universal memory of our planet. Around rocks the energy is strong and yang, yet also meditative and calming. On a personal note it feels like past foundations and challenges have lead to present transcendence. Powerful and potent stuff!
